Port Allegany Borough
Port Allegany is nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains in the heart of the Pennsylvania Wilds. It was originally known as Canoe Place because it was the location where travelers coming overland from the Susquehanna River could continue by boat on the Allegheny River. It's name was changed to Port Allegany in 1838, and was incorporated in September 1881.
Today, Port Allegany is a quaint town that provides residents with a safe environment surrounded by forests and access to almost any form of outdoor recreation you can imagine. The major industry in Port Allegany is the glass industry, with both Ardagh Group and Pittsburgh Corning Corporation having major glass manufacturing facilities located within the Borough. In addition to industry, natural beauty, and outdoor recreation, Port Allegany is home to two school systems - the Port Allegany Area School District and the Seneca Highlands Career & Technical Center. The Port Allegany Area School District is the public school district serving the community and provides students with high quality educational opportunities as well as exceptional extracurricular sports, music, and drama programs. The Seneca Highlands Career & Technical Center services 10 school districts from 3 counties and provides a wide range of vocational and career training programs for high school students and adults.
Port Allegany is a great community for anyone interested in visiting, moving here, or starting a business in North Central Pennsylvania.
